Client: Howard Picker
Service: Executive Transition Architecture™
Strategist: Tammie M. Calys | Executive Reinvention Strategist
SITUATION
After more than 25 years as an operator, founder, and growth executive, Howard Picker entered a career transition struggling to clearly articulate the through-line connecting his experience and the value he brought to the market.
His breadth of experience across founder-led companies, PE-backed organizations, franchise systems, operations, growth, and development had become difficult to distill into a cohesive executive identity.
As Howard described it: “I genuinely felt like I had lost my professional identity.”
The challenge wasn’t a lack of capability or accomplishment. Howard needed to step back from titles and individual roles, connect the patterns across his career, and define both the executive he had become and the environments where he could create the greatest impact.
ACTIONS
Tammie Calys guided Howard through the Executive Transition Architecture™ process to clarify his executive identity, strengthen his market positioning, and create a framework for evaluating what should come next:
- Executive Identity Architecture: Examined Howard’s career history, leadership patterns, operating style, strengths, and recurring value-creation themes to identify the clear through-line across his experience. This work repositioned him beyond a narrow functional identity and clarified his positioning as an Executive Integrator, Organizational Builder, and Growth Architect.
- Executive Positioning & Narrative: Translated Howard’s career patterns into a clear value proposition and authentic executive narrative centered on his ability to align leadership, operations, strategy, people, and culture into scalable business systems.
- Market Positioning Alignment: Sharpened Howard’s resume, LinkedIn presence, and spoken messaging so recruiters, hiring leaders, and networking contacts encountered a consistent executive story across every touchpoint.
- Opportunity & Environment Validation: Shifted the evaluation lens beyond whether Howard could qualify for a role to whether the organization, leadership environment, authority, and opportunity were genuinely aligned with how he creates value.
- Executive Market Activation: Developed a more intentional approach to networking and opportunity pursuit, enabling Howard to communicate what he was seeking with greater clarity while becoming more selective about the opportunities and conversations he pursued.
RESULTS
- Reclaimed Executive Identity: Howard moved from feeling that he had “lost” his professional identity to recognizing the consistent value-creation pattern running throughout his career.
- Clearer Market Positioning: He developed a concise executive narrative that he described as finally feeling like “me,” supported by resume and LinkedIn positioning aligned with that identity.
- Greater Confidence in the Market: Howard reported approaching recruiters, hiring leaders, and networking conversations with significantly greater clarity and confidence.
- More Productive Executive Networking: After completing ETA, networking conversations began developing into legitimate executive opportunities, including later-stage discussions.
- Stronger Opportunity Discernment: Perhaps the most significant shift was moving from asking “Can I get this job?” to asking “Is this really the right next chapter for me?” — evaluating opportunities based not only on whether he could create value for the organization, but whether the opportunity was genuinely aligned with the value he could bring and the environment in which he could make his greatest contribution.
CLIENT PERSPECTIVE
“For any executive navigating a transition or struggling to answer the deceptively difficult question, ‘What do I really bring to the table?’ I highly recommend working with Tammie.”
